Honda Econ Button: What It Does & When to Use it?
When buying a vehicle, there are many factors that can affect your choice, fuel economy is often the most important reason.
Honda has managed to increase fuel economy through the Econ button, which you will find in Honda vehicles.
Many drivers are not informed about what the Econ button can do and when to use it. We will answer all your question below.
What Does the Econ Button Do?
Thanks to the Econ button, your Honda will work much more efficiently by changing the way certain features of the vehicle work. By activating the Econ button, the cruise control, Air conditioning, and throttle response are changed, bringing your Honda into an optimum operation to achieve savings in fuel consumption.
Cruise control – When your Honda is on cruise control, activating Econ mode limits its ability to shift speeds into a higher or lower gear, thus achieving optimum performance and increasing its efficiency.
Air conditioning – Air conditioning system provides a pleasant driving experience, but at the same time, it increases fuel consumption. In Econ mode, your air conditioner works more efficiently, using a smaller amount of energy needed to keep the cabin temperature.
Econ mode is activated by pressing the Econ button located to the left of your Honda’s steering wheel. If the green leaf on the dash is illuminated, this means that Econ mode is turned on, otherwise, when the green leaf on the Econ button does not bright, the Econ mode is off.
When Should You Use it?
The Econ button will significantly increase the fuel efficiency of your vehicle, but not on any road and in all driving circumstances. Therefore, it is important to know that there are situations when it is better the Econ button is turned off. This primarily refers to road conditions. Econ mode will not achieve its efficiency if the roads are dangerous, steep or curved.
This means that the cruise control cannot maintain a constant speed, but it has to make more frequent shifts in the transmission speed, which will reduce fuel efficiency. Also, a very high outside temperature requires the constant operation of your air conditioner, which will increase fuel consumption.
If you are wondering when to use the Econ button, these are the following situations:
- On the highway
- On the road without steep incline and curves
- When the outside temperature is not too high
